At the highlight of the VLN season, the Opel 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal Race, they were in the lead again. The successful driver duo Marc Hennerici and Christian Menzel of the Team Raceunion Teichmann Racing (RTR) once more dominated the Cup 2 class and scored the fifth victory in a row. After a superior and safe performance in the race, which was particularly demanding due to the difficult weather conditions, Hennerici and Menzel in the Worldpeace-Porsche also finished in an excellent eighth position overall.
Already the practice was marked by extremely difficult conditions at the Eifel track. Marc Hennerici nevertheless set a top time in the Worldpeace-Porsche 991 Cup. With a lap time of 8:57.243 minutes, he was more than one minute faster than the competitors in his class and gained eleventh overall position on the grid with his Porsche with start number 122, in between the stronger GT3 vehicles.
The team had unfortunately taken a wrong tyre choice at the start. As a tyre change on the grid is not permitted, start driver Menzel had to take the start in heavy rain on slick tyres and was struggling hard to keep his Porsche on the wet track. Their rivals, having fitted rain tyres, were of course much faster and Menzel dropped back in third place in their class.
The track dried up and provided a change in the balance of performances. Menzel began to attack and started a great chase. Even before the competitors came to the pits to change to slick tyres, Menzel had already regained the leadership position in their class. He was able to defend his lead despite a slight off into the Armco barriers at a slippery section with oil absorbent. After his double stint, he handed over the RTR Cup Porsche to his team mate Marc Hennerici. The latter completed extraordinary fast lap times and extended their lead in the class before he changed back to Menzel for his final turn. Menzel then secured a safe finish in the Worldpeace-Porsche after a total driving time of six hours and five minutes and with an advance of more than two minutes ahead of the second-placed car in their class. Karl-Heinz Teichmann was happy: “Our car is running perfectly, the set-up is fantastic and all of our drivers were able to transfer this into brilliant performances. Marc and Christian complement each other perfectly.”
