The ADAC RAVENOL Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie bids farewell to Juha Miettinen. The Finnish racing driver was killed in an accident last Saturday during the first round of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. With his passing, the series loses a long-standing and dedicated competitor who was a fixture on the starting grid for many seasons.
Juha Miettinen, born on 18 January 1960 in Finland, epitomised the classic gentleman driver. At the Nürburgring, the businessman, who lived in Switzerland, was extremely well-connected and was often regarded as the first point of contact for compatriots taking their first steps on the Nordschleife. The motorsport community in his native Finland describes him as a fair racer who never approached the sport with a competitive edge, but always with a genuine love of driving.
Mike Jäger, Managing Director of the NLS, offers words of remembrance for the 66-year-old Finn: “The accidental death of Juha Miettinen has deeply affected us all. He always approached the challenges of the Green Hell with great respect and sporting ambition. At times like these, the competition fades completely into the background. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. We will remember Juha as someone who shared his passion for this sport and his ‘petrol in the blood’ with us all in a very special way.”
During his career in the NLS, Juha Miettinen secured a total of eight class victories. A particular highlight was winning the class trophy in the V4 class in 2023. Just the weekend before his death, during the NLS3, he stood on the top step of the podium for the last time and celebrated victory in the BMW 325i Challenge.
