“We can this time be really satisfied with our results”, said team manager Matthias Weiland after the seventh race of the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring. The two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of the Weiland Racing Team completed the Opel 6 Hour ADAC Ruhr-Pokal Race without any problem. The car driven by Andreas Weiland, Bert Flossbach and Sebastian Glaser finished in 20th overall positions and the Fuxtec-Porsche of Guido Wirtz, Einar Thorsen and Alexey Veremenko in 22nd place overall.

In the practice already, the team which is based in Frankfurt had shown a solid performance. With a lap time of 9:43.732 minutes, the Fuxtec-Porsche gained sixth position on the grid in its class and place 40 in the overall classification. The black and white Weiland-Porsche set a time of 9:44.819 minutes which meant seventh place in class SP7 and 44th overall grid position. The conditions hereby were more than difficult. The originally wet track dried up quickly but there was a time window of only a few minutes to set a fast time as it then started to rain again. Matthias Weiland: “We tried not to go crazy considering the conditions. We completed our programme as scheduled and are happy with the result that we achieved.”

The race was started on a wet track and in a light drizzle. As the conditions were supposed to change quickly, though, dry-weather tyres were fitted to both of the Weiland Porsche. Whilst Wirtz in the Fuxtec-Porsche coped with the tough conditions and completed the first laps on the wet track with slick tyres without mistakes, Flossbach in the other Porsche finally decided to change to rain tyres. This turned out to be a wrong decision as they had to change back to dry-weather tyres shortly later when the track dried up again: “We have not achieved anything with the additional tyre change but didn’t lose too much time either.”

Once the complete field with 161 cars was on slick tyres, the two Weiland Porsche were shown between position 20 and 30 which they maintained throughout the complete race.

Team manager Matthias Weiland was happy: “We have got the maximum out of our material. The drivers have shown a perfect performance, that was the best we could achieve. I hope we will be able to repeat this good performance in the next race at the beginning of October.”
