The fifth round of the VLN endurance racing championship took place last weekend in bright sunshine. In an excited race, class SP10 was dominated by Mathias Hüttenrauch (Schlangen/ Germany) and Michael Czyborra (Wandlitz/ Germany) with their Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT4 entered by Nedschroef / structure-bau Racingteams and they celebrated a superior class win.
It was a picture-book race day. The drivers of the 47th ADAC Barbarossapreis started the race in splendid weather to take up the competition about points and cups in the legendary ‘Green Hell’. In class SP 10, the Aston Martin drivers Mathias Hüttenrauch and Michael Czyborra finally showed the most successful performance and scored an unchallenged victory after 25 race laps in their Vantage V8 GT4 with start number 186.
Aston Martin Nürburgring Center Director Wolfgang Schuhbauer congratulated: “I am really delighted that we are able to celebrate another win in class SP10.” However, he admitted that they also benefited from the bad luck of their rivals: “It is true that the field has been cut down a little towards the end but this is exactly what demonstrates that you also need a little bit of luck and a lot of concentration to cover the whole race distance without major problems. Considering this, the two have fought hard for achieving this well-deserved victory here.” Schuhbauer himself retired with the Aston Martin Vantage GT12 that he shared with Andreas Bänziger from Switzerland and Florian Kamelger from Italy due to a technical failure in lap nine.
For Aston Martin this was already the 47th class win in this most popular grassroots racing series of Europe whilst the driver duo Hüttenrauch/Czyborra celebrated their second VLN triumph. They had been on top of the podium already at the penultimate race end of June.
Driver, teams and of course all the motorsport fans do not have to wait long for the next round at the Eifel track. The engines will be started again at the Nürburgring in only three weeks’ time when the sixth VLN race of the season 2015 will take place on 22nd of August.
