The Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport was able to achieve two results on the podium in the class of VLN series production cars at the fifth round of the Nürburgring VLN endurance racing championship. They thus concluded the first half of the season successfully. Youngster Timo Hilgert furthermore managed to defend the title in the VLN Junior Trophy.
“I am very proud of the whole team. The performance of each and every team member throughout the first half of the season is absolutely outstanding. With our fantastic team work we have already been able to score some class wins and a number of result on the podium in this first half. I hope that we will be able to build on this excellent performance in the second half of the season”, said team manager Matthias Unger (Heusenstamm/ Germany) who had every reason to be satisfied again at this fifth round of the VLN endurance racing championship.
Christian Büllesbach (Königswinter/ Germany), Timo Hilgert (Rheinböllen/ Germany) and Andreas Schettler (Baden-Baden/ Germany) were in fact able to further increase their track record with their BMW Z4 Coupé in production car class V5. At the completion of the four hours race duration, the classification showed the driver trio in second class position. “We are very happy with our second place, in particular as the competition today in our class was particularly outstanding”, said Büllesbach. The three drivers were thus also able to successfully defend their fifth place overall in the VLN endurance racing championship. Youngster Timo Hilgert is furthermore still in the lead of the VLN Junior Trophy. “We will of course do everything to support Timo in winning this classification. But the competition is on a very high level and will become very tight in the five remaining races”, said Unger.
Danny Brink (Kühlsheim/ Germany), Christopher Rink (Frankfurt/ Germany) and Niklas Steinhaus (Wermelskirchen/ Germany) brought the team of Adrenalin Motorsport up into second position on the podium last weekend. After their victory in production class V4 at the last race of the current season, the motivation and the expectations of the driver trio was particularly high this time. But it should turn out to be a day of ups and downs. “We have experienced quite a turbulent weekend. Unfortunately, it started with technical problems in the qualifying. The team was able to sort our the problems quickly but we had to be satisfied with fifth position on the grid”, informed Christopher Rink who then had a moment of shock little later in the race during his stint after the start. “There was a Renault Clio behind me in my first race lap. The driver was unfortunately not able to brake in time for a ‘Code 60’ section and crashed into the rear of my car with excess speed. At this moment, I thought ‘that was it for today’,” Rink added. Even though the exhaust, the bumper and the rear plate on the BMW 325i were damaged, the car was able to continue. In a tough fight, the driver trio managed to catch up back into second class position for a part of the race. “Due to the emergency repair on the rear during the pit stop, we lost of course some more time. Considering the turbulent action after the start, we can after all however be very happy with the third place in our class. It’s a pity that we finally missed the second place by only 0.203 seconds”, said Steinhaus.
