Mario Farnbacher is gathering more and more pace with the Lexus RC-F GT3. At the only second race participation in the brand-new sports car from Japan, the 23 years old scored his first laps in the lead and finally celebrated a fantastic second position. “I have no words at all to express my joy. We would never have anticipated our first result on the podium already at the second race”, said a more than delighted Farnbacher who was moreover suffering a heavy flu.

The foundation of the success on the podium was laid by Mario Farnbacher in the early part of the race. The Franconian driver had gained fifth grid position for the team in the timed practice and he put up a really good fight in the first laps. “There is still a slight lack of performance compared to our competitors but we were able to stand up against the others with our constant performance”, is Farnbacher’s summary. Despite the strong competition, the race driver was catching up lap by lap. After six laps, the 23 years old then provided a moment which will go down in history when he went into the overall lead with the Lexus RC-F GT3 for the first time ever in a VLN race.

Up to the moment of the driver change, Farnbacher was involved in close battles about the race lead. After the middle stint completed by his brother Dominik Farnbacher, he continued his pace onto the podium which was an important milestone in the development of the Lexus RC-F GT3. The family team from Lichtenau in Franconia/ Germany is one of two teams in Europe competing with this sports car. “Each and every kilometre that we are able to complete is very important”, explains Farnbacher. “This fantastic result represents for us the confirmation that we are on the right track. With the success on the podium, we have been able to demonstrate the potential which the Lexus RC-F GT3 has.” Mario Farnbacher is determined to take the success from the Eifel to his next race in the United States. From 7th to 9th August, he will fight for the victory in the American sports car championship (Tudor USCC). The very competitive racing series, in which Farnbacher still has the chance to gain the title, will then be hosted in Elkhart Lake in the US state of Wisconsin.
