At present, Zimmermann, the manufacturer of brake systems, cannot really complain in the matter of motorsport. The experts in brakes are partner of Mathol Racing in the VLN endurance racing championship. The Zimmermann-Porsche serves not only as advertising medium but also as development vehicle for the products of Zimmermann. At the third round of the season, the Cayman S scored a superior win in its class and finished clearly ahead of all its competitors. It was, however, not as easy as it looked for the two drivers Claudius Karch and Ivan Jacoma.
The competition in class V6 is extremely close. It is in particular one Porsche 991 that puts a lot of pressure on the Zimmermann-Porsche. At the third race again, the team had permanently to keep an eye on their rivals and to adjust their own strategy accordingly. The crew thus decided for Claudius Karch to proceed to three stints in a row. The advantage is obvious, if the same driver remains in the car, he does not need to proceed to a first rather cautious lap to check the conditions out on the track and does thus not lose any time.
At the end of his mission, Karch was however really exhausted. “The car was really good but I was also pushing hard all the time”, explained the exhausted driver. Ivan Jacoma, too, pushed himself and the Zimmermann-Porsche to the limit and he succeeded. The Cayman was always in first position. It was only after his closest rival retired a few laps before the finish that he could take it bit more relaxed and then made it safely to the race finish.
The Zimmermann-Porsche thus remains undefeated so far this year in the VLN. The first race was stopped at an early stage and there was no race classification. The car then won the second race, just like now the third round. The success story of the team can keep going in two weeks’ time when the fourth round of the year is scheduled to start on 4th July. Not only the company of Zimmermann, but also the team of Mathol Racing hopes to score another win then.
