AVIA celebrates their first win of the season

Big celebrations in the team of AVIA racing: After two retirements in the previous races of the season, the racing team has now made a fantastic comeback with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage in the third round of the VLN endurance racing championship. Wolfgang Weber, Norbert Bermes and Hendrik Still had a perfect and superior start-finish-victory in the GT4 class SP10 which had never been in danger. The successful driver trio furthermore finished in a very strong 31st overall position amongst the about 200 cars.

“This success feels incredibly good”, said Hendrik Still who had completed the final race laps and crossed the finish line in first place. Wolfgang Weber had already set a first exclamation mark previously in the timed practice: He took pole position in class GT3 with a lap time of 8:55,756 minutes. The experienced race driver and his team mates were able to follow up this performance in the race so that the triumph of the driver trio had never been in danger. “Finally, I just had to make it to the finish to win. Our Aston Martin was running perfectly and this result represents a big satisfaction after all the bad luck in the previous two race”, said Still happily.

Raphael Hundeborn, Marc Legel and Stephan Kuhs finished the race in an excellent sixth place with their Opel Astra OPC. The Opel team showed a fantastic performance in particular in the first part of the four hour race. “Until our first pit stop, I managed to move up into third place and the leading position was even within reach. We had a fantastic set-up”, said Marc Legel who was the start driver. “Towards the end of the race, unfortunately we got a gearbox problem. So the sixth place finally is a super result”, added Raphael Hundeborn.

The third round of the season had a moderate running for the BMW 235i of the team AVIA racing. They lost valuable time due to a collision at the beginning of the race and the team lost many places. The sports car from Bavaria nevertheless finished in ninth place. So AVIA racing was able to complete important test kilometres and to gain important experience with the car in this race again.

“We are extremely happy with the victory”, said Stephan Hauke of AVIA racing. “This is the reward for our team and last but not least for all the fans who keep their fingers crossed for us all the time.” AVIA racing is now looking forward to the next race in the VLN series (17 May) with great expectations: They want to score another successful race in three weeks’ time.
