The trophy for the most successful BMW private driver will this year go to Italy. On occasion of the 51st distribution of the BMW Sports Cup Trophies in Maisach near Munich, Thomas Biagi received the winners’ award at the amount of 30,000 euros, presented by BMW Motor Sport Director Jens Marquardt and Alessandro Zanardi. Biagi may furthermore look forward to a drive in the BMW M3 DTM offered as a special award for the overall winner of the 2012 BMW Sports Cup competition.
At the 51st run of the BMW Sports Cup competition, 243 participants all together were fighting for the total prize money of 250,000 euro, amongst them a number of VLN drivers. The best VLN driver was Henry Walkenhorst in sixth position and Steve Jans became eleventh.
Marquardt’s comment: “After more than half a century, the attraction of the BMW Sports Cup competition for all the drivers around the world is not diminishing at all. 243 participants from 24 different countries on four continents took part this year. They represented the BMW colours in 47 race series. Each and every driver participating in the BMW Sports Cup competition is part of the BMW motor sport family. Our private drivers are fantastic ambassadors for the make BMW.”
