The VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring is the most popular national racing series in Germany. A survey was carried out by the specialized magazine ‘sport auto’ and with 25.3 percent of the votes, the second place in the readers’ award of the category “The most attractive racing series” went to the series at the Nordschleife, just behind the Formula One World Championship (29.1 percent). So in their personal ranking, the readers placed the endurance racing championship still ahead of the DTM, the World Rally Championship, the Sports Car World Championship, the GT World Championship, the Touring Car World Championship and the ADAC GT Masters. The total of 12,365 persons participated in the vote.

“The result of the vote is an impressive confirmation of a sophisticated development in the VLN over a period of 35 years”, says Karl Mauer, VLN Marketing and Media Managing Director who received the award in Stuttgart: “The result of this vote implies both an obligation to stick to the principles of VLN but also not to close oneself of the future. We wish of course to express out thanks to all the readers of sport auto whom we owe this result of the vote which is so important for us.”

In 2012, the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring will have its 36th year in the ‘Green Hell’. Ten times a year, up to 210 cars are starting at the Nürburgring Nordschleife; nine races run over the distance of four hours and one race has a race time of six hours. The fields of the race cars include the smaller close-to-production cars up to the most sophisticated and developed race cars and ambitious private drivers are competing against well-known professional drivers. Attractiveness for the fans is one of the key points in the endurance racing championship. Entrance all around the Nordschleife is free. Access to the open grandstands at the Grand Prix Circuit, the paddocks and the starting grid is available at the family-friendly price of 15 Euro per person. Children up to 14 years have free entry. Tickets are available on-site at the ticket boxes. All the races are one-day-events with a timed practice session on Saturday morning between 08:30 and 10:00 to decide on the grid positions and the race to start at 12 o’clock.

The next round of the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring, the 43rd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy organised by the MSC Adenau will take place on 23rd June.
