Another triumph for Jurek and Olivo in the Renault Sport Speed Trophy

The Renault Sport Speed Trophy had its next championship race at the sixth round of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. Due to several accidents, the red flag was shown twice at the 34th DMV Grenzlandrennen. The drivers of the team TKS Motorsport kept a cool head under these eventful conditions and even succeeded to score a one-two win.

With place three on the grid after the qualifying, Jannik Olivo and Elmar Jurek in their Renault Clio Cup entered by TKS Motorsport had a pretty good and promising start position for the race. After the race start, Olivo did a fantastic job in quickly moving up into the lead of class Cup3. Together with his team mate Jurek, he constantly extended this lead so that they finally finished the race into first class position. “We have built a new engine during the past few weeks and we are really happy that it was running so well today”, said a happy Elmar Jurek. Jannik Olivo, too was delighted: “A fantastic result and we could score important championship points.”

Into second position of the Renault Sport Speed Trophy finished Dominik Brinkmann and Stephan Epp who had taken the race start from pole position. After the first few and exciting race laps with close fights about the lead, the Sesterheim drivers had to abandon the field and accept that their competitors were faster. “The car was running perfectly and we are happy. We simply had no chances today against the TKS Clio racers”, said Dominik Brinkmann. The top three were completed by Thorsten Wolter. The TKS Motorsport driver who, as solo driver, was very busy throughout the race scored another successful result for the team.

An impressive show in catching up provided Dietmar Henke and Konstantin Wolf. “A Porsche crashed into my rear right wheel at the Grand Prix Circuit”, informed Henke who then came to the pits after about one hour. The team of Semiquarz Racing changed the rear axle of the Renault Clio in a little less than 20 minutes before the driver rejoined the race. The race did not continue without problems for Semiquarz Racing so that they finally finished into 19th place.

In addition to the 23 starters in Renault Clio race cars, there was a special highlight in the field. The Renault Mégane RS driven by Franck Grossetete and René Wolff started in class VD1T. The Diesel driven French race car unfortunately had to retire after seven race laps. “It is nevertheless fantastic that such cars keep on providing a show in the field of Renault race cars”, said Renault Project Manager Tobias Hütter.

The race was interrupted with the red flag in the tenth lap due to accidents. Further incidents then caused the race to be finally stopped. Full championship points will however be allocated as the minimum time of 160 minutes was achieved. Jurek and Olivo have further extended their lead in the Renault Sport Speed Trophy and are now shown on top of the classification with 144 points. The next VLN race will take place on 27th of August when further teams in the Renault special classification will again have the possibility to attack.
