The first race participation of the TIC Racing Team in the second round of the VLN endurance racing championship 2011 turned out to be very successful. The team received a cup for the sixth place in class SP3T (VLN Specials 3 T – over 1600 cc and up to 2000 cc with turbo) and in 45th position in the overall classification.
The free practice as well as the timed practice with the fights about the positions on the grid was running to the full satisfaction of drivers Michael Bäder (Mössingen/ Germany) and Karsten Quadder (Solingen/ Germany) with their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X TR09. “Considering the high weight of our car which can best apply the advantages of the powerful four wheel drive under rain we are happy that we achieved a very good start position after practice in these summer temperatures and on the dry track”, said an enthusiastic Quadder before the race start.
The team took the start from 90th grid position amongst the total of 203 race cars which started the race over the distance of 4 hours at the 24.369 kilometres long combination of the Nürburgring sort connection and the Nordschleife. During the first two hours, Karsten Quadder made it up into 6th position in class SP3T with his race car and left 16 competitors in their class behind.
”This early success was also due to our new pit stop strategy and the precise and quick work of our well trained team”, explained Stefan Kniesburges who managed the team during this race and who was in permanent contact with the drivers. The team was completed this weekend by 3 experienced members from the successful team of Michael Bäder who became champion in the STT H&R Cup in 2010 for the last time due to his professional attitude and meticulous work.
Despite many accidents and sections under yellow flags in the ‘green hell’, Michael Bäder secured the team’s sixth place in class SP3T during the second 2 hours due to his fantastic racing abilities and even achieved a brilliant 45th place overall in the sunny and dry weather – the TIC Racing Team being enthusiastic about this result.
“We have achieved everything which was possible today! A great success”, said a happy managing director Frank Koch in his way to the prizegiving ceremony at the ring°boulevard where the drivers received the first cup of the season in place of the whole team.
