On 3rd of April, the team around TIC racing has finally gotten there. The TR09 was for the first time presented at the Nürburgring in the final design. The whole morning was used at the Nürburgring GP Circuit for extensive tests of the amendments made on the suspension unit. The modifications carried out turned out to be a big step in the right direction.
The lap time had become faster and the handling was much better. “It is a much better feeling now, and there is more to do”, says Karsten Quadder (Solingen), driver in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X TR09, already after a few laps. “I think we have almost arrived at the point where we are supposed to be”, explains Karsten at the end of the setup sessions. “Further very valuable improvements could be achieved in close co-operation with our suspension partner who supported us today on-site in word and deed.”
In the afternoon, the team then got further support on the drivers’ side. Racing experienced driver Dirk Kremp (Oberstdorf) came to drive the TR09 over the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in the free practice in addition to team mate Karsten Quadder. He felt straightaway comfortable and could contribute with some other valuable findings about the race car.
Next day on 08:30hrs exactly, the team felt very well prepared to start the qualification of this first championship round. The lap time realised by the team around TIC racing in this session resulted in a reasonable position on the starting grid and looked very promising for the race itself.
Start driver Karsten Quadder in the TR09 returned for a scheduled pit stop after eight race laps. He managed to gain some positions and handed the steering wheel over to Dirk Kremp. The second scheduled pit stop then followed after another eight race laps.
”You can feel the great potential of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X TR09 any time on the track. In particular the gearbox properties are perfect when racing. The shifting points are very impressive”, informs Dirk Kremp.
Karsten Quadder then continued the race and received the chequered flag in the TR09 into fifth position in class SP3T. “It was a very successful weekend for all of us. The team, the drivers and the car all have done an excellent job and we are looking forward to the next event”, says Frank Koch, TIC racing GbR team manager.
