The TMG GT86 Cup this season promises even more fun in motorsport both for participants and spectators. In 2016 again, this popular Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) single-make cup will be organised within the framework of the VLN endurance racing championship. TMG will bring an upgraded version of the reliable GT86 CS-V3 to the start, the GT86 CS-Cup. It is intended to further improve the lap times in the cup which are now already lying below ten minutes.
After three successful years with the race car developed by TMG, the attractive single-make cup has become an integral part of the VLN. Even the multiple winner of class V3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hour Race, was also competing in the Cup vehicle during the past years.
In 2016, TMG will continue to provide ambitious amateur drivers a professional environment, a well-tested and reliable race car as well as an improved price-performance package. The total amount of €60,000 will be awarded in the TMG GT86 Cup in form of prize money and prizes-in-kind. Early birds may furthermore benefit from a bonus if they register early on. The fee for registrations submitted until 29th February is only €1,800. Registrations up to 19th March will cost €2,300 and starting from 20th March then €2,700.
The further development of the GT86 CS-V3 which was introduced in 2013 is currently going at full speed. Priority is hereby given to a considerable weight reduction, the further development of the engine and an upgrade of specific components. CS-V3 models launched in 2015 can furthermore be modified to the 2016 status in terms of performance through the application of a cost-efficient upgrade kit. The advantages of the upgraded GT86 CS-Cup may thus also be used by last year’s teams. Models of the year 2015 without the upgrade kit will remain eligible in the TMG GT86 Cup 2016.
In addition to a top performance of the race car, cost efficiency has always been a main concern for TMG. With a purchase price of only € 38,500 (exclusive of upgrade kit), low running costs and an extensive service at the race track, the TMG GT86 Cup provides its teams and drivers an outstanding and attractive package. The new Cup vehicle will carry on with that tradition.
Further details to the TMG GT86 Cup 2016 as well as to the specifications of the new Cup vehicle for the coming season will be communicated by TMG shortly.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer customer motorsports: “I am convinced that the CS-V3 is one of the best production-based customer cars on the market, as is this year’s CS-Cup. We do of course not want to rest on our laurels but bring the performance of the GT86 onto a new level. All of our know-how and the experience gained within the three years of organising the Cup will be incorporated in this project. It goes without saying that we also take into consideration the experience and the requests of our customers and Cup starters throughout the last years. Their expertise was the most important indicator for us. The experience gained during the development of our R3 rally cars, too, has been used for our new Cup vehicle and we adopted some components. Due to this intensive further development we expect after all a significant increase of performance which will be demonstrated with much faster lap times.”
