In 2016, the popular Opel single-make cup will celebrate its fourth season. The 320 horse power strong Opel GTC OPC will compete in unmodified technical specification.

Since its kick-off and within the past four seasons, the cup has become a true highlight within the VLN endurance racing championship. In all of the races, there were close and exciting fights and the winner in the championship had always been open until the final race of the season. The cup was highly appreciated – both by the participants and by the spectators.

The persons in charge at Opel Motorsport hence decided to organise the Astra OPC Cup this season, too. “We thus comply with the requests of our teams who wish to continue competing at the Ring with their race cars. And of course we also know how popular the Cup is with all the many fans around the legendary Nordschleife”, says Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott.

The considerable amount of €50,000 in total will be awarded as prize money in the Astra OPC Cup, of which €30,000 are reserved for distribution amongst the top three in the final cup classification. The registration fee for the whole season was reduced from €2,500 onto €500 and the points allocation system was simplified. From now on, the top ten overall will be allocated points in each race according to the following table 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1. The bonus points for the pole position as well as for the fastest race will hence be more significant.

The Opel teams may rely on well-proven technology. The about 320 horse powers strong GTC OPC which is unmodified compared to last year as ever stands for a strong performance in all weather conditions, whilst it is a production-based race car at reasonable running costs. The central supply of spare parts provided by Kissling Motorsport hereby guarantees a strict control of costs. An extensive and expensive stock of parts is thus not necessary for the teams.
