Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabeth (Dörr-Motorsport) concluded the season before starting into the winter break as you would expect. The duo which had already won the TMG GT86 Cup in advance, finished the season finale again in first place. And once more, Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid (WH-Motorsport) gained second position. The top three were completed by another Toyota CS V3 entered by Dörr-Motorsport and driven by Thomas Bolz, Nils Jung and Florian Wolf.
During the season finale, weather again played an important role at the traditional race track in the Eifel. The timetable was turned upside down due to fog. The start of the race was delayed and it was shortened to a three hour distance. When the visibility became increasingly worse again during the afternoon, Race Control decided to stop the race for safety reasons shortly before the scheduled three hour duration had expired. However, pursuant to the regulations, the minimum distance to award full points had already been completed at that moment. Cup winners Hoffmeister/ Wrabetz won their class again and thus confirmed their fantastic third place in the VLN overall classification. They had no more chances to win the championship as leaders Dirk and Tim Groneck, too, dominated their class and secured their second title in the VLN.
“We have done what we could and maintained the theoretic chance of an overall victory with our eighth class win of the season. That was unfortunately not enough. With this race result, though, our fastest time in practice and another fastest lap time in the race of the TMG GT86 Cup, we have terminated the season in a masterly manner”, said Dörr team manager Uwe Isert who was nevertheless happy with the great end of the season.
With second place in the last race of the year, father and son duo Hönscheid also secured second place in the Cup classification. “We got a few problems in practice and then had to take the start from the last grid position. But in the race, our car was once again running perfectly. We managed to move up in second place and thus defended our second position in the Cup classification. A satisfactory finale”, said a happy Wolfgang Hönscheid. After its successful result in the ninth race of the season, the Team Toyota Swiss Racing had this time to be satisfied with sixth place and finished the Cup in third position.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid secured second place in the TMG GT86 Cup in an exciting finale. The father-and-son duo convinced in their only second Cup season with a strong performance. But third position for the Team Toyota Swiss Racing is an excellent result, too, and also reflects a very good season. In purely arithmetical terms, our Cup winners still had a chance to win the title in the VLN overall classification, so it is really a pity that they could not make it despite scoring another victory. But the Groneck brothers, too, showed a consistent performance and deserve having won the title. And we send our congratulations of course.”
