The new Porsche 911 GT3 R that is based on the seventh generation of the cult sports car 911 will start at the 9th round of the VLN endurance racing championship on the Nürburgring Nordschleife on 17th of October 2015. This will be the competition debut for the first test car built for endurance testing of suspension and brakes. The engine used in the test car will be the well-proven engine from the predecessor models. The new engine generation with a direct injected powerplant is scheduled to be used for the new production and for further tests in the United States as well as on the engine test bench in Weissach.
The purpose of the first participation of the new Porsche motorsport customer sports car under racing conditions is also to test suspension and body components. The operations and development team of Manthey Racing shall furthermore be provided with the opportunity to get familiar with the car and its handling in good time.
“It has always proven beneficial in the development of a new race car to test it under racing conditions at an early stage. The demanding Nürburgring Nordschleife hereby offers the best conditions”, says Head of Porsche Motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser. “Whilst our new engine is simultaneously undergoing a test programme in the United States under warm conditions, we are conducting tests on suspension and body components at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with its unique topography.”
