The current TMG GT86 Cup leaders Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz of the team Dörr Motorsport managed to extend their lead in the Cup classification with a start-finish-victory and are thus half-time champions in the attractive single-make cup of Toyota Motorsport GmbH.
Arne Hoffmeister pulled away from his competitors early in the race and handed over the race car to his team mate Fabian Wrabetz with an advance of about 2:30 minutes ahead of their rivals. Until the race end, the 25 years old student then managed to extend this gap to as much as 4:58.588 minutes on the second-placed TMG GT86 Cup vehicle.
From the beginning of the race, the father-and-son driver duo Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid of the team WH Motorsport had a tough but fair battle about second position with Olivier Muytjens and Bruno Barbaro of the AMC Sankt Vith which the team AMC Sankt Vith finally won. WH Motorsport had gone off the track in the Mercedes Arena and had to proceed to a pit stop due to the slightly damaged car. “We are happy that apart from the wishbone no other components were damaged in this slight impact. The team has done a brilliant job so that we were able to rejoin the race quite quickly. It is of course a pity that our chances to finish on the podium now had gone”, said Kevin Hönscheid.
The AMC Sankt Vith team, however, also suffered some bad luck. Whilst holding second place, the car ran out of fuel at the Döttinger Höhe. Driver and team manager Olivier Muytjens nevertheless took it with a sense of humour: “I got a ride with a spectator to the fuel station so that I could restart the race after only 35 minutes. Thanks again from this point to my saviour!”
Manuel Amweg and Thomas Lampert with start number 533 benefited from the situation and gained second place for the Toyota Swiss Racing Team.
In third place finished Thomas Bolz and Nils Jung also members of the Team Dörr Motorsport. “Of course we were quite lucky to finish third. The good performance of our drivers yet is not a surprise to us but confirms our excellent support of young talents,” said team manager Uwe Isert. He takes a positive résumé: “The TMG GT86 Cup does not only provide motorsport with an excellent price-performance ratio but it is also great fun. I am very proud on the overall performance of our team, they have all done a fantastic job. We are now fully motivated for the second half of the season.
