Quite a surprise at the drivers’ selection organised by TMG United during the VLN endurance racing championship test and set-up session: No fewer than two new talents will join the team in the TMG GT86 CS-V3 in the current VLN season. In addition to regular driver Charlotte Wilking, Dominik Greib (22) and Christian Scherer (25) will compete in the VLN Series.
It was the third time already that the team of TMG United, exclusively made up of TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH staff, selected new talented drivers for racing in the VLN in a drivers casting. Six drivers out of the many applicants made it this time into the final selection. “Dominik Greb and Christian Scherer finally seemed to be the most promising candidates. They both have the necessary qualifications, they both have experience in racing at the Nordschleife and they both show more or less the same level of performance. Therefore, we felt it would have been unfair to reject one of them and decided spontaneously to invite them both to join our team”, says André Haun, chief senior mechanic in the team of TMG United who work for their motorsport project exclusively in their free time.
New Team TMG United will have its first start on 28th March
Team Manager Martin Duke gave another reason for the new line-up of the driver team: “We have competed with only two drivers so far. But we want to advance with the team as well. It will be a new challenge now to start with three drivers. I am curious to see what kind of effect this will have on the performance of our team”, says the 49-years-old American. The TMG United Team with drivers Wilking, Greb and Scherer will make its racing debut at the VLN opening round, the 61st ADAC Westfalenfahrt, on 28th March.
Dominik Greb, an automotive technician from Wülfrath/ Germany, can look back onto three years of experience in the series ‘Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring (RCN)’ and the VLN. “I am absolutely delighted about this new challenge and hope that I will grow together with the team”, says Greb. His new team mate Christan Scherer, too, is an automotive technician and comes from Bad Neuenahr/ Germany. He has been competing in motorsport events since 1997 and celebrated his biggest success in 2013 when he won the RCN championship. “I want to become integrated in the team as quickly as possible and also celebrate one or another success with TMG United throughout the season”, is how Scherer expresses his targets for the season.
