All the successful privateers who rely on the race cars from the Munich manufacturer around the world were honoured by BMW last Friday evening. The ceremony was dominated by the team classification for the teams in the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring. Adrenalin-Motorsport – the first winning team in the BMW M235i Racing Cup which was introduced in 2014 – secured first place ahead of Walkenhorst Motorsport and Sorg Rennsport.

“We have introduced the team classification in 2013 and we are delighted that it enjoys such a big popularity in our series”, said Marquardt. “58 teams have registered for this classification in its second year and this is more than 70 percent over the figures from the previous year. Amongst the top ten, we have teams from Germany, the United States, from the Netherlands, Great Britain and Switzerland and this demonstrates the international character of the BMW Sports Trophy. Congratulations to Matthias Unger and his team from Adrenalin Motorsport for their successful results and for their victory in the BMW Sports Trophy.”

Unger was really exited after the prizegiving ceremony: “All of our team has continuously worked towards this goal. Our dream to finish in first place in the BMW Sports Trophy has become true this year and we have dominated so many BMW teams from all over the world. So this success is absolutely crazy. It is a regular target every year to make it by the final of the BMW motorsport season. It is absolutely fantastic to receive this award finally.” Danel Sorg, too, was very happy: “We are a rather young team and this prize represents a superb motivation for us. I wish to dedicate this cup to my team for their tireless work.”

In addition to the team classification, the successful drivers were also honoured. First position was gained by Markus Palttala from Finland – another VLN driver who, however, much more competed in a Porsche at the ‘Green Hell’. Very pleased about his fifth place was Jörg Weidinger who is also successfully competing in hill-climb races apart from the BMW M235i Racing Cup. Behind Michael Schrey in tenth place, the new VLN champions Rolf Derscheid and Michael Flehmer received an award for place 13. “The highlight of a fantastic season”, said Derscheid.
