Fantastic success for female race driver Sabine Schmitz: The readers of the specialized magazine AUTO BILD MOTORSPORT elected the popular VLN driver as Driver of the Year in the category sports cars. Thereby, Schmitz left famous professional race drivers such as Le Mans winner André Lotterer and Marcel Fässler behind.
The prize was awarded by AUTO BILD MOTORSPORT on 28th November 2014 during the 13th „Race Night“ at the Essen Motor Show. The award was presented by chief editor Katrin Wolff. About 600 guests from business, media and motorsport attended the official prizegiving ceremony at the Congress Centre West in Essen.
“I am absolutely surprised”, said Schmitz. “This prize means so much to me as it was awarded as a result of the readers’ votes. It also attests that our good performances in the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring are indeed noticed by the motorsport fans. We hope to follow up our successes in 2015 seamlessly.”
Having scored three victories, the team of Frikadelli Racing again was the most successful top team in the endurance racing championship in 2014 and secured the title in the VLN Speed Trophy for the second time in a row.
