Superb finale for Dörr Motorsport at the last round of the season in the TMG GT86 Cup. After a fascinating and partly extremely exciting race, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz in the Toyota GT86 CS-V3 with start number 534 win the tenth and final race of the TOYOTA Motorsport make cup, part of the VLN endurance racing championship.
The Dörr Motorsport driver duo was leading the cup already before the finale and secured the overall win with this fantastic race result. In second place of this last race of the season finished Sarah and Nigel Moore (Vantage Motorsport) ahead of the Team Leutheuser Racing & Events with Jutta Beisiegel, Pawel Ledwon and Ralf Goral. There were hence no more changes in the leading positions of the overall classification. Behind the new champions, Martin Tschornia (Leutheuser Racing & Events) defended his second position. Third position shows the Moore siblings (final classification subject to confirmation by VLN and DMSB).
“Becoming the champion with a race win – it couldn’t be any better. We absolutely wanted to finalise the Cup victory by our own efforts and that’s what we did in an impressive manner. I am simply very happy”, said Uwe Isert, Dörr Motorsport team manager, after his team had taken the chequered flag. One of the first to congratulate at the pits was Nico Ehlert, TMG’s Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport. “It is without question that Hoffmeister and Wrabetz have deserved this championship win. They were fast throughout the whole season, they did not make any mistakes and scored points regularly,” Ehlert added with regard to the new Cup winners.
The race provided all the excitement that is so typical for motorsport events at the Nürburgring. After 26 minutes, it had to be suspended due to emerging fog and after 118 minutes exactly, the weather had improved so far that it was possible to resume the race. The remaining race ran over another three hours and six minutes right into the dusk. Right from the start, the new champions provided a close battle about the lead in the TMG GT86 Cup with the car of Vantage Motorsport. At the end of the third lap, both cars crossed the start and finish line following each other so closely that not even a stamp would have fitted between the bumpers of the two Toyota.
Shortly after half race distance, Hoffmeister and Wrabetz moved slightly away from their competitors but a yellow flag sector at the Döttinger Höhe destroyed their advantage. “We were stuck behind the works Bentley that was driving at a speed of 40 instead of the permitted 60 kph”, explained Isert after the race. “So what, finally everything went well.” After 18 laps, the driver duo’s advance ahead of the car of Vantage Motorsport came up to 29.476 seconds.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “We have initiated our make cup because we wanted to provide some customer motorsport. After two years, I must ascertain that our concept has paid off. In the first season, our customer first had to get to know us. Now they have confidence in our work and noticed that we give our full support wherever we can and for all the teams likewise. That is why for me, this second season has been even more successful than our first year. The satisfaction of our teams is amongst others reflected in the fact that many have already announced their participation next season, too, and that some of them intend to even expand their engagement in 2015.”
