The race was however by far not an easy ride for the winners. In particular during the first half of the four hours race duration, the Moore family had exciting fights with the cars of Dörr-Motorsport, Leutheuser Racing&Events and Toyota Swiss Racing. The lead in the class changed several times amongst these teams. It was only in the last hour of the race that Moore and Moore were able to gain a small advantage ahead of their rivals and were shown with an advance of 1,22.782 minutes. “We are totally happy with this result. The team has once again prepared the car perfectly”, said Nigel Moore with a thank you to his team. “But the race today was really exhausting. We had to struggle heavily with the heat in our car.” “Apart from one unscheduled pit stop due to a tyre damage, we had a really good race”, confirmed his sister Sarah. “With the pole position, Nigel had already demonstrated that our car was quick today. We are very happy that we could follow up this pace in the race, too. Considering the Cup classification, this good result and the points which we have scored have helped a lot to close up the gap to the leading teams.”
Bad luck in contrast had the Team WH-Motorsport. Father and son Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid completed fast laps and managed to move up gradually to the leading drivers. Nine minutes before the end of the four hour race duration, their strategy to set constant lap times seemed to pay off. The team from Hennef/ Germany had moved up into third place when all of their hopes onto a position on the podium were spoiled due to an accident in the Schwedenkreuz section.
The next race of the TMG GT86 Cup will take place in three weeks’ time. The calendar of the VLN endurance racing championship of which the TMG GT86 Cup is part shows the ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen to take place on 23rd August. With its six hour race duration, this round is considered to be the highlight of the season.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “I am really happy that we have seen an exciting race today, without any interruptions or major incidents. Congratulations to the Team Vantage Motorsport which has made the fight about the overall classification in the TMG GT86 Cup even tighter with their third win in the current season. The gaps in the leading group in the overall classification have thus become even closer. This demonstrates how closely balanced the field in our make cup is and that due to the identical race cars, all the drivers have the same chances in the competition.”
