Innovation, passion, environmental awareness, performance and fun – these are the attributes which characterize the ‘Green Hybrid Cup’ best. The Italian make cup is the first and only cup worldwide of its kind which focuses on innovative hybrid power in connection with a liquid power gas drive. The participants with the 15 identical KIA Venga will this year again have six races on their calendar; five of them in Italy and a guest performance in Germany during the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring.
There is one outstanding personality amongst the drivers: Arturo Merzario. The former Italian Formula 1 driver has a very special relationship to the Nürburgring. At the Grand Prix of Germany in 1976, Merzario, together with Brett Lunger, Guy Edwards and Harald Ertl, was one of the courageous heroes who recovered the heavily injured Niki Lauda from the burning race car after his accident at the Bergwerk and thus saved the Austrian’s live.
