The motorsport community pays tribute to one of their biggest heroes: Sir Jack Brabham has died today, aged 88. In the year 1998, the three-time Formula One World Champion had a guest start in the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring.

Together with his Australian countrymen Ross Palmer and Melinda Price, Brabham completed 32 laps in a VW Beetle during the 6h Race without any problem and even finished in second place in group A up to 2,500 cc cylinder capacity. With a time of 10:37.67 minutes, Brabham also set the fastest lap from amongst the three drivers.

“The last time that I was here at the Nürburgring dates back to 1970, with a Formula 1 race car at that time” he informed. “Many things have changed since then. And this was the first time for me to experience the sun here at the Nürburgring.”
