AVIA racing is positioned even more broadly than ever for the season in the VLN endurance racing championship: The racing team will for the first time enter vehicles from three different manufacturers in this most popular grass-roots series in Europe. With a brand-new BMW 325, an Opel Astra OPC and the well-known Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the team combines ambitious efforts with a unique diversity.
With the Aston Martin, which is also so popular in particular with the fans and spectators, AVIA racing pursues high targets: Wolfgang Weber, Norbert Bermes and Hendrik Still wish to fight for the Championship title with the 450 HP strong GT4 race car. Last season, AVIA racing scored the total of four class wins with the spectacular sports car and thus confirmed its excellent performance. Especially Hendrik Still, who will compete in the AVIA colours for his first time, is very much looking forward to the new season: “I have already competed in the GT4 class some years ago with a Ginetta and the Aston Martin had always been our strongest rival. I am all the more happy that I will now be able to race in exactly that car. That will be a fantastic challenge as we wish to fight for victories.”
The team is facing the new season with the Opel Astra OPC Cup with great expectations, too. The average of 20 cars had been entered in the Championship in the year 2013, providing exciting motor sport action. For Raphael Hundeborn, Marc Legel and Stephan Kuhs this is reason enough to fight for points in the AVIA Opel. Hundeborn who has been competing at the Nordschleife since more than 15 years is very confident: “The Astra OPC Cup is a perfect basis. We all have already completed very successful test sessions. So our target is clear, we wish finish on the podium regularly.”
AVIA racing is entering new grounds with the BMW 235i. This is the first time that the racing team enters a race car of the make BMW. Stefan Hauke is full of anticipation regarding the young project: “We did not hesitate at all when we learned that there will be a BMW M235i Racing Cup. As a company based in Munich, AVIA is happy to participate in this Championship. Furthermore, we wish to contribute to the great diversity in the VLN endurance racing championship in entering three different car types.”
Mathol Racing has been charged with the technical support of the AVIA race cars. Last year, already the team of Matthias Holle had been responsible for the AVIA racing cars. So a continuation of the successful co-operation was self-evident as Stephan Hauke explains: “With Mathol Racing, we have an experienced partner at our side which has also the necessary know-how. We will attack together again.”
The first position-fixing for AVIA racing will take place during the VLN Test and Set-Up Sessions (21st to 2nd March). The first round of the season at the “Green Hell” will then follow only one week later (29th March).
