Take-off as an independent team

For the first time this year, Walkenhorst Motorsport will start as independent racing team. For this purpose, they complete the team with additional racing cars. After many years of motorsport activities and after gaining one year of experience with the BMW Z4 GT3, Walkenhorst Motorsport is not taking the next step and will compete in the 2014 season autonomously, as an independent racing team. In the preparation of this step, a solid structure has been built up and the necessary staff has been contracted and is on duty.

The Dubai 24h Race represented a first test for the young and success-oriented team and they finished in sixth place. This result provides evidence that the structure within the team is working very well and that the team members know their duties perfectly.

In addition to the BMW Z4 GT3 which is very familiar from last season, the team will enter two M235i and another BMW Z4 GT3. The two BMW Z4 GT3 will be the spearhead of the team and compete in the Nürburgring endurance racing championship, better known as VLN, but also in two races of the 24h Series at Zandvoort (12 hours) and Barcelona (24 h). And they will of course also participate in the 24h Race at the Nürburgring.

The M235i is a vehicle recently developed by BMW which will be classified in a separate cup at the VLN rounds and at the Nürburgring 24h Race. As – with the exception of the suspension adjustment – it is not allowed to carry out any modifications on the car, the drivers\’ abilities alone, of course in co-operation with team, will decide about victory or defeat. Quite a demanding job.

The composition of the driver crews for the current season are in most instances already certain but a few seats are still available. Experienced and interested drivers are cordially invited to contact team co-ordinator Martin Brinkel ([email protected]).
