The winning team of the last VLN round ROWE RACING was not very lucky this time at the 36th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen. Both the SLS AMG GT3 driven by Nico Bastian (Frankfurt/ Germany) and Jan Seyffarth (Querfurt/ Germany) and the gullwing race car of the crew with Michael Zehe (Florsheim-Dalsheim/ Germany), Marko Hartung (Wallroda/ Germany) and Mark Bullitt (Miami / USA) had to retire from the race due to accidents. This was all the more unfortunate as the team which is based in Bubenheim had a fantastic start of the race enjoying a superior lead.

Nico Bastian who took the start in the SLS AMG GT3 with number 7 from second grid position was able to move into the lead of the field comprising 175 cars shortly after the start. He dominated and controlled the action from first position and was able to quickly gain quite a comfortable advance. After only four race laps, Bastian’s gap to the following cars had already increased up to 2.5 minutes. When it then started to rain, the chase around the Nordschleife became more and more difficult. Due to the water on the track in the area Breitscheid, the race leader Bastian was out of the race in his fifth lap. The retirement of the sister car with start driver Mark Bullitt only little later was a consequence of the rapidly deteriorating track conditions, too.

The team of ROWE RACING will have another chance at the next VLN round, the 45th ADAC Barbarossapreis which will take place in two weeks time already on 28 September. A summary of today’s race will be broadcasted in channel SPORT1 on Wednesday, 25 September, from 22:00hrs.
