The VLN (organisers’ association of the endurance racing championship Nürburgring) feels impelled to cancel the test and set-up session scheduled for Saturday, 16th March, due to the prevailing weather conditions at the Nürburgring. New snow falls and sub-zero temperatures give no room for hopes that the unofficial launch of the VLN endurance racing championship season can take place.
„We hoped until the very last moment that it would be possible to organise the test and set-up session“, says VLN Chairman Rolf Krimpmann. “The works on the track on the part of the operating company have been completed last weekend. About 15 centimetres of snow came however down in the night to Tuesday and the weather forecast predicts sub-zero temperatures in the area of the Nürburgring for the next days. There is no hope that the snow would melt until the weekend. We are therefore impelled to cancel the event.”
The VLN will continue to carefully observe the weather forecast. For next week, temperatures over zero are currently forecasted so that the launch of the season on 23rd March seems to be feasible. “We will keep our fans updated through out website www.nuerburgring-langstrecken-serie.de and through facebook”, adds Krimpmann.
Due to the cancellation of the VLN test and set-up session, the VLN press conference and the VLN presentation in the ring°boulevard will also not take place as a consequence.
