The organisers’ association of the endurance racing championship Nürburgring (VLN) is deeply concerned about the announcement of the insolvency administrators to start an unconditional bidding procedure for the Nürburgring sports complex shortly. The VLN supports the demand of the association “Pro Nürburgring” to stop the selling process until a structural separation between the race circuit itself and the hotel, event and recreational facilities as well as the continuing public interest in grass-roots sports can be ensured.

The target of the demonstration on 19th March 2013 in Mayence is to prevent the unconditional selling of the Nürburgring circuit. This applies all the more as the insolvency administrators have now announced the plan to sell the Nürburgring only as a complete unit, which means the sporting complex plus the commercial facilities outside the sport. With its competence acquired over more than 35 year of activities at the Nürburgring, the VLN understands this to be a wrong signal and sees a high potential risk for grass-roots sports and for the region. VLN hence wishes to show a gesture of protest and shows its concern about the continuation of the series and of grass-roots sports at the Nürburgring and invites everybody concerned (drivers, mechanics, team members and organisers) to follow the call of the association “Pro Nürburgring” for the demonstration on 19th March 2013 in Mayence.

The VLN supports the demand of the association “pro Nürburgring” which asks to negotiate with the European Commission about a solution in the interest of the public and on the basis of a well-founded expertise. The sport must be in the focus in each process of developing solutions. Such a concept and in particular the significance of grass-roots sports at the Nürburgring must be pointed out to the European Commission so that the body in Brussels takes into account the public interest of sports and the requirements of the region in a sufficient manner.

Meeting point for the demonstration is in Mayence-Finthen, Am-Finther-Wald, at 11 o’clock. An autocorso will start from there at 12 o’clock and move towards the “Große Bleiche” in Mayence. The demonstration will take place there at 2 p.m., opposite of the parliament. More information on lift-sharing and the registration of drivers for the autocorso are available on the website of the association “Pro Nürburgring” under the following link: www.ja-zum-nuerburgring.de.
