The 37th DMV Münsterland Trophy, the so-called “Ham Race”, on Saturday will again see the Schubert Motorsport aim to bring home the bacon. The race, promoted by the MSC Münster, is the tenth and final round of the 2012 VLN Endurance Championship as hosted by Nürburgring, and sees the winners not only presented with trophies, but also with samples of the Münsterland region’s ham.

That fact alone has provided the team from Oschersleben with sufficient motivation to enter two competitive crews for the race. In partnership with Uwe Alzen (DE) and the drivers of his Team Uwe Alzen Automotive, Phillip Wlazik (DE) and Niclas Kentenich (DE), Schubert has entered the BMW Z4 GT3 with car number 19. Stefan Landmann (AT), Peter Posavac (DE) and Abdulaziz Al Faisal (SA) are down to crew the number 20 sister Schubert entry – presented in the team’s legendary “Sag Ja zum Ring” (Say ‘Yes’ to the Ring) livery.

Practice for the season finale of the Nordschleife’s long-distance championship gets under way at 08:30 on Saturday, with the four-hour race itself starting at 12:00 local time.

Stefan Wendl, Team Manager: “When you combine a car for Uwe Alzen with the Nürburgring, then obviously you are in with a good chance. That means: We aim to fight the other established teams for a podium place. Niclas and Phillip may not know the BMW Z4 GT3 well, but their class and experience is such that I am not concerned about their ability to adapt immediately – as our BMW Z4 GT3 is well set up for the Nordschleife. Our second entry sees Stefan Landmann make his debut for us. He has already proven to be a really fast GT racer. Our tyre partner Dunlop will again support us superbly, while the expected coolish weather during the weekend will enable us to test tyres in these conditions.”

BMW Z4 GT3 #19, Uwe Alzen: “Our joint entry with Schubert Motorsport provides an ideal opportunity for my team and myself to evaluate our options for next season. In 2013 we plan to race a BMW Z4 GT3 on the Nordschleife, as the Z4 is a car with which one can contest overall victories. The fact that I know the Schubert team well – and know what they are capable of – provided the perfect basis for this co-operation for the final race of the VLN season.”

BMW Z4 GT3 #20, Stefan Landmann: “I am really looking forward to my first race with Schubert Motorsport in the BMW Z4 GT3. Naturally I aim to give of my best, and hope to prove what I am capable of. I know that the Schubert team is a super squad, and that my team-mates are fast drivers. Thus a top-ten placing is within reach.”
