Due to many accidents occurring at the fourth round of the VLN season 2012, the winner amongst the RENAULT CLIO finally turned out to be a surprise when the 43rd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy had finished. The winner of the Renault CLIO CUP prize money classification, too, was a surprise.

Under dry track conditions, the total of 18 RENAULT CLIO race cars took the start last Saturday in the third starting group of the field comprising more than 160 cars in total. The championship leaders Jannik Olvio and Jurek Elmar started the race from amongst the front rows of the grid. The two team mates from Berlin were in the lead of the CUP3 classification until about mid-race when they had to retire due to an engine failure. As the other favourite crews, such as Karl Brinker of the team Vulkan-Racing Mintgen as well as Holger Goedicke and Mathias Schläppi entered by Schläppi Race-Tec, were also not able to finish the race, this was the time for the drivers showing strong nerves.

After almost four hours race time, Helmut and Horst Baumann of the Team Ring Racing took the chequered flag as leaders ahead of drivers Peter Utsch and Pierre Moret. Whilst the first placed were able to finish with an advance of more than three minutes, the gap between the teams in second and third places was only a few tenth of a second. Jana Meiswinkel and Ernst Berg finished into fourth position in the class CUP3 and first in the CLIO CUP Speed Trophy special classification. The team of the club SFG Schönau was all the more delighted about this result as this was their first participation again after an accident at the kick-off of the season. It seems that the crew of the team Schlaug Motorsport has a subscription onto the second place in this special classification. The drivers Lhomer and Frei finished in second place for the fourth time in four races and thus further increased their lead in the table of the Renault prize money classification.

The fifth round of the VLN endurance racing championship 2012 will take place in two weeks time, on the 7th of July 2012, with the 52th ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen.
