A little more than one month after their class win at the highly competitive Nürburgring ADAC 24h Race, the fourth round of the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring was on the calendar for Wolfgang Kaufmann and his team mates Dieter Schornstein and Florian Fricke. The Porsche expert from Molsberg/ Germany again started in a Kremer Racing Porsche 997 GT3 KR in which Kaufmann already had achieved three positions on the podium in three races of the current season for the team which is based in Cologne.

Despite an engine management problem in the timed practice, they could pursue their series of success in this fourth race. “The mechanics had to solve some problems in the electronic system so that we did not have enough time in the practice to set a fast lap time”, explains Kaufmann the low number of laps completed in practice.

“In the race, our 997 GT3 KR was then as usual running without any problems and we managed to be in the lead of class SP7 throughout the entire race. After four race hours, we missed the class win by even less than half a lap. The whole team of Porsche Kremer Racing has once again done a brilliant job. Our new racing strategy turned out to be very successful. After 4 laps, I came to the Kremer pits for refuelling to then continue for a scheduled stint. My one and a half turns were really cool.”

With four podium positions, Wolfgang Kaufmann is now best SP7 driver in the overall classification of the endurance racing championship. The next round, the 52nd ADAC Reinoldus Langstreckenrennen will take place on 7th July 2012.
