Phoenix Racing remains loyal to the Nordschleife. After winning the 24 hours Nürburgring, Ernst Moser’s team will also contest the remaining seven VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring races. The regular drivers nominated for the two Audi R8 LMS ultra are the 24h winners Marc Basseng and Frank Stippler as well as the juniors Luca Ludwig and René Rast. Phoenix will compete with the pairings Haase/Ludwig (#5) and Basseng/Stippler (#15) at the next VLN race on 23 June.
“Phoenix Racing and Nürburgring simply belong together, after all our team is based directly on the Nordschleife. In addition, Audi is also at home in endurance racing,” says Team Boss Ernst Moser. “The VLN is a fantastic race series with which we have always felt closely associated with. This is why we have decided to complete the entire season.”
This season, the first three rounds of this popular race series acted as preparation for the 24-hour race. They also proved to be successful with second and fourth places for Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng/Christopher Haase/Frank Stippler respectively in the third round on April 24. The great victory followed at the end of May when Audi Sport Team Phoenix presented together with Basseng, Haase, Stippler and Winkelhock presented Audi with a historical first victory in the 24h Nürburgring. This was the third 24h victory around the Nordschleife after 2000 (Porsche) and 2003 (Opel).
“In the Audi R8 LMS ultra we have a strong car with which to stave off the strong competition. Our drivers have the experience and the speed to run right at the front,” says Ernst Moser who not only won the 24h Nürburgring with his team in 2012, but also the 12-hour race at Bathurst, Australia. His squad also contests the DTM as defending championship winning team. “We are looking forward to the VLN races on our doorstep and the many fans in and around the Nordschleife.”
