LMS Engineering dominated the second round of the 2012 VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring, too. Even though the practice session which was held under difficult weather conditions was not running perfectly for the team, two of the three VW Scirocoo GT24 entered by LSM Engineering in the very strong class SP3T went into the lead already after the first lap.
Final modifications on the VW Scirocco with start number 330 were carried out by team manager Andreas Lautner as late as on the starting grid but he was not able to raise very big hope in start driver Christian Krognes to score another victory. The Scirocco suffered again of inexplicable misfirings and break downs of the fuel pressure. Since the accident at the test and set-up sessions, this problem turned up regularly but in irregular running intervals. One of the four modifications carried out just before the start, however, solved the problem so that the Scirocco GT24 was running perfectly and scored a second victory in the current season.
A double victory seemed to be within reach as the second Scirocco with drivers Philipp Leisen and Devis Schwägli was in second class position when, due to a damaged tyre, they lost a lot of time which they could not make up until the finish. The damage was caused by a debris picked up.
For the first time since LMS Engineering joined the VLN endurance racing championship, the team is in the lead of the overall as well as of the junior classification. The team will take all efforts to maintain this leading position at the end of the third round as well.
