Successful start into the season 2012 for the RENAULT CLIO Cup Speed Trophy
Last weekend, the VLN endurance racing championship started the new season with the 59th ADAC Westfalenfahrt. After the first round in 2012, Karl Brinker with his RENAULT CLIO is into first place overall.
Like in the year 2011, the RENAULT CLIO vehicles with 22 cars on the grid this weekend represented the biggest group within the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring. As a result of the adverse weather conditions again prevailing in the Eifel region, not all of the participants which had started the race were able to take the chequered flag, four of the RENAULT CLIOs were not classified. Shortly before three hours of the scheduled race distance had been completed, the red flag came out and the race was suspended due to heavy fog. It was then finally stopped as there was no chance for an improvement in the weather. As more than 160 minutes of the race distance had been completed at that moment, full championship points will be awarded.

The top three were completed by Uwe Kleen and Jean-Jacques Meyer of the Team Ring Racing. The winners in the special classification CLIO CUP Speed Trophy, which was introduced this year, are Fabian Müller and Roland Botor of the team Roadrunner Racing who also finished in sixth place in the CUP3 classification. Werner Frei and Karl Raab of the team RL-Racing finished second in this special classification, followed by Nadir Zuhour and Mohammed Al Owais, also part of the Roadrunner Racing team, into third position.
