The festive prizegiving ceremony for the successful drivers in the series of the “BMW Sportpokal” took place last Saturday. The three VLN champions Carsten Knechtges, Manuel Metzger and Tim Scheerbarth of the Team Black Falcon finished as best German team and were highly celebrated when they received the awards for their eighth position in the classification for BMW private drivers at the premises of BMW in Munich. The winner is Paul Dalla Lana from Canada who competed in more than 23 events in the United States with a BMW. In addition to the Black Falcon juniors, Mario Merten (position 12) and Wolf Silvester (position 16) from amongst the VLN drivers also received trophies.
In the jubilee season of the BMW Sportpokal series, the total of 235 participants were fighting for the total prize money of 250,000 euros, more than ever in the history of this championship. BMW Motorsport Director Marquardt said: “The attraction of the BMW Sportpokal for drivers from all over the world does not appear to be diminishing even after 50 years. We have achieved a new record again in 2011 regarding the number of participants. If you look a little closer to the entry lists you will find out how great the variety in achieving brilliant successes in competitions with BMW is: 27 models were entered in more than 40 race series on four continents and nine titles were gained. Each driver participating in the BMW Sportpokal becomes part of the BMW motorsport family. This is highly appreciated by the participants since more than half a century now and they are fantastic ambassadors for BMW.”
