Ten times again in 2012 we will say ‘The race is on for the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring’. The only racing series at the Nürburgring Nordschleife will go into its 36th season at the most beautiful race track of the world, the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Hereby, always on Saturday about 180 race cars, from series production compact cars up to the most sophisticated race cars, will start in the ‘Green Hell’.
The first round will be the 59th ADAC Westfalenfahrt scheduled for 31st March. The VLN test and set-up session to take place one week earlier on 24th March will represent the unofficial start of the new season. The series will continue with two further races on 14th April (37th DMV 4-Hour-Race) and on 27th April (54th ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup) to be followed by the 24h Race at the Nürburgring (17th to 20th May).
In the summer months, only two championship races clash with two other major events, the 43rd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy on 23rd June with the European Football Championship and the 35th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen with the Olympic Games in London. The 52nd ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen on 7th July will fit in between these two rounds. The highlight of the series will then be the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen to take place on 4th August, the only race which will not cover the traditional distance of four hours. The last third of the season will be made up of the 44th ADAC Barbarossapreis on 25th August, the 36th DMV 250-Meilen-Rennen on 28th September and the 37th DMV Münsterlandpokal on 27th October.
“The organising VLN is very happy with the calendar which was co-ordinated with the Nürburgring Automotive GmbH”, says VLN Managing Director Dietmar Busch (Radevormwald/ Germany). “The first and the second third of the season comprise three races respectively in a compact two weeks’ rhythm. In between we will have the 24h Race with a sufficient interval to our events so that on one hand the teams are able to get perfectly prepared and on the other hand the risk of having to miss the classical endurance race due to an accident or technical failure is not very high.”
