The championship is already decided: After nine VLN races, the Peugeot RCZ is already the best Diesel-powered race car in the VLN Nürburgring endurance racing championship. The Team Peugeot RCZ Nokia is now looking forward to the season finale to take place in the Green Hell next Saturday (29 October) with a lot of euphoria and anticipation. After the successful season for the Peugeot RCZ, a position amongst the top ten in the overall classification is quite realistic. After seven class wins so far, their target is to finish again on top of the podium.
A fantastic motor sport year for the Peugeot RCZ
Michael Bohrer, Jürgen Nett and Stéphane Caillet, who in addition to the seven victories in class “D1T” have scored another two second places with their white Diesel sports coupé, are more than happy with their season: “If we gain another victory at the finale, we have achieved the absolute maximum with eight wins as only eight results out of the ten rounds are counting towards the final classification”, says Jürgen Nett. “We’ve had a fantastic year, also considering the second class win in a row at the 24h Race here at the Nürburgring in June, in particular also as the competition was much closer compared to last year. The team has done a brilliant job. The Peugeot was running like clockwork and we had not a single retirement.” Team mate Michael Bohrer adds: “Our team was made up of three drivers with almost equal performances. This consistency is clears represented in the results which we achieved.”
During the season, the Peugeot RCZ was continuously further developed by the drivers and the engineers. The optimisation of suspension and engine in the Diesel sports coupé resulted in a bigger reliability and speed. For the finale of the season, the driver trio Bohrer, Nett and Caillet is aiming at another class win. “We thus wish to confirm our position amongst the top ten in the overall classification”, informs race driver Stéphane Caillet.
Successful debut this season made with Kumho
Another important factor for the successful season of the Peugeot RCZ HDi FAP at the demanding Nordschleife was the cooperation with tyre partner Kumho. Jürgen Nett: „Their engineers supplied us again and again with updated and better tyre compounds. I have to express a big thank you to the whole team of Kumho.”
The second race car of the Team Peugeot RCZ Nokia also had impressively good results in 2011. The black RCZ which was driven by alternating drivers during the season contributed five times to a one-two win in the class of Diesel-powered race cars.
