After two races which finished with bad damages for the Team Schmickler Performance, the 42nd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy race became a big success for the team. Their great efforts in rebuilding the cars after the last race was awarded with positions one and two in class V4 of standard production cars and fourth place in class V5 .
The top car driven by Markus Schmickler, Guido Strohe and Lars Heisel had moved up into position 1 when it started to rain just after a scheduled pit stop. The BMW 325i was fitted with rain tyres when, three laps later, they had to change back to slick tyres again as it stopped raining. The car nevertheless finished with a superior class win.
The BMW 325i prepared by Schmickler Performance and driven by Klaus Landgraf, Yannick Fübrich and Sven Glatzel decided to remain on slick tyres and to refrain from coming to the pits for a tyre change. Last but not least, this was one of the reasons why the car made it up to place 2 in the class.
The third car of the team, the BMW Z4 of the z•racing•teams finished into fourth place in the very strong and competitive class V5. Dieter Weidenbrück, Christian Wack and VLN newcomer Rolf Buchstaller were very happy with this result after their experience in the last race when their car was so badly damaged by another competitor in the last race lap. The performance of Rolf Buchstaller must in particular be mentioned as he completed his first race laps ever in the VLN on slick tyres and in the rain very successfully.
“In the first two championship rounds, we had to cope with three major damages due to accidents and one engine blow-up in addition”, informed Markus Schmickler, this time happy. “The extraordinary efforts of the team were the basis for this success to which the drivers of course added with their fantastic performances.”
The results were accordingly celebrated at the prizegiving ceremony, even though track commentator Lars Gutsche estimated that the applause may have been bought. After such a day, however, everyone involved is simply happy and celebrates, in particular as you feel really being home in the Media Centre as member of the VLN family.
