Yannick Fübrich attracted a lot of attention at the first two rounds of the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring. Below an interview with the 19 years old race driver before the 3rd race at the Nordschleife on next Saturday, 14 May 2011.
Yannick, at the beginning of the year, it was not yet confirmed that you would at all race at the Nordschleife again…?
That was a decision at very short notice. I had the chance to race together with Klaus Landgraf in a BMW 325i. I did not refuse, of course.
How did you know each other?
We had already competed in one and the same team in the karting GTC long-distance championship.
How did the first two races go?
At the first race on 30 April 2011, we straightaway made it into second position in class V4. In the 2nd race, we then gained pole position and were in a comfortable lead when we were involved in a collision with a Porsche through no fault of our own. Shortly after, a BMW then crashed into the side of our car. All together, we were however able to demonstrate that the BMW prepared by Schmickler Performance is absolutely competitive.
What are your plans for the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring?
I have good news here as well. I will compete at the 24h Nürburgring with the Guttroff Corvette in class SP8. The car is currently updated and be ready by end of May.
