The Wochenspiegel Team Manthey (WTM-Racing) will start its fifth season with a few modifications. Regular driver Peter-Paul Pietsch said goodbye at the traditional kick-off party as we wishes to take a rest from racing in the 2011 season. “There are many reasons for my withdrawal but none of them had anything to do with the team in which I have always felt really comfortable.”
WTM Racing will compete in the endurance racing championship 2011 with three drivers: Georg Weiss, Michael Jacobs and Oliver Kainz. A new driver will join the team for the 24 Hour Race. The experienced race driver Jochen Krumbach will complete the WTM trio for this classical long distance race.
In 2011, WTM-Racing will count on the reliable Wochenspiegel-Porsche 977 GT3 in class SP7. Georg Weiss: “As privateers, we have returned to class SP7 in order to avoid the many professional drivers with the GT3 cars and to be able to fight for a class win again.” The Porsche has been completely updated and be provided with a rocker switch. Georg Weiss: “The car was running perfectly at its roll-out and we are thus starting the season with great confidence.”
The first participation of WTM-Racing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife will be at the test and set-up session of the endurance racing championship.
Georg Weiss: “I do not at all assume that the decision to go back to class SP7 represents a step back for us. But the number of professional drivers has considerably increased and I really wish to score a class win again. One or another position amongst the top 10 would furthermore of course be fantastic.”
Michael Jacobs: “Just like very year, I can hardly wait for racing at the Nordschleife again. We are very well prepared again and have good chances of a successful running of the season.”
Oliver Kainz: “I really enjoyed my first year with WTM-Racing and so I am looking forward to the second season. We’ll see what is possible with the SP7 Porsche.”
