Renault MotorSport further increases their engagement in clubsport racing. The Renault Sport Speed Trophy organised as part of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring will continue to enjoy the fans around the Nordschleife with fantastic fights about positions and exciting overtaking manoeuvres.
The Renault Clio Cup cars of the years 2011 to 2011 will in future start in class Cup 3. The French race cars are prepared in compliance with the technical regulations of class SP3 (VLN Specials up to 2000cc capacity). After the end of the ten qualifying races, the winner of the Renault Sport Speed Trophy will not only be greatly honoured but he will also receive a prize money of 10,000 euros.
“When we started to organise the Renault Clio classification in the endurance racing championship 2008 for the first time, we had on the average only even cars at the start of each race. Last year, we often had more than 20 starters and for the new season, we have already received lready 27 entries”, says Tobias Hüttner, deputy project chief at Renault MotorSport, who is very happy with the current situation. “The class Cup 3 will be one of the most competitive classes in the field. Our teams will thus have the chance to be also competitive in the fight for the title in the VLN endurance racing series Nürburgring. We are hence all the more looking forward to another interesting year at the Nürburgring.”
A very special highlight of Renault MotorSport both for the fans and the drivers will be the popular Renault Race Festival organised during the ADAC Zurich 24h Race at the Nürburgring (23rd to 26th June 2011). 70 cars from several decades of French history in automobile sports, from Renault Alpine over Renault 5 Turboa and Renault Megae Tophy, will then gather at the Nordschleife for a sporting get-together.
