During the general assembly of the Deutscher Sportfahrer-Kreis (DSK) on February 26th, Johannes Scheid was elected as a new member of the presidium. The 61-year old is quite familiar with the troubles, problems and needs of racing drivers: even though he has stepped down from racing himself, Scheid remains involved as a team principal and he has been standing up for the interests of his fellow drivers in the VLN endurance series as the drivers’ representative since 2000.
“With Johannes Scheid, we are welcoming a profound racing expert into our presidium. His competence and experience from over 40 years in racing are a valuable contribution for the Deutscher Sportfahrer-Kreis”, said chairman Dr. Ziegahn. Johannes Scheid has been a member of the DSK since 1980. “I am looking forward to my new duties and I am delighted with the confidence the DSK members have put in me”, he said. “It is my aim to bring my experience into the presidium of the DSK.”
Dr. Karl-Friedrich Ziegahn as the DSK president, Friedhelm Kissel as the deputy president and Altfrid Heger as a board member were all elected for another term. Hans-Walter Kling, who previously was a board member, replaces Jürgen Illig as secretary of the board, the latter not having run for another term due to personal reasons. 443 members were present at the assembly in the Dorint Hotel at the Nürburgring.
Award for Mario Merten
During the general assembly, Mario Merten received an award. The driver from Nürburg has been a DSK member since 1989 and clinched his third VLN title with a Bonk Motorsport BMW Z4 last season. For this success, he was awarded another trophy for his cabinet at home by the DSK.
Hilgeland: “The stage has been set for club racing at the Nürburgring”
Hans Jürgen Hilgeland, spokesman of the VLN shareholders, took the stage at the general assembly of the DSK in order to inform the audience about the basic situation of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. “The sport will continue to play an important role at the Nürburgring in the future. The stage has been set for club racing. Together with the circuit management, the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring has set up an attractive calendar and now, we are all looking forward for the sport to take centre stage at the Nürburgring again from April onwards.”
