“This year, we intend to put popular amateur sports clearly into the focus of our activities proposed for our customers”, explains Joachim Tünnesen, Managing Director of the Porsche Zentrums Willich this year’s target of the company from Willich/ Germany in motor sports. The car dealer hence supports the team “Pro Sport” based in Herschbroich/ Germany which will compete in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft with a Porsche Cayman in class V6 of series production cars.
With their engagement, Pro Sport and the Porsche Zentrum wish to demonstrate that it is possible for ambitious amateur drivers, too, to practice high-level motor sports, and this at reasonable costs. The possibilities for modifications in class V6 are very restricted. Apart from the usual safety equipment – rollover structure, fire extinguishing system, competition seat and 6 point harness – the eligible components are limited to items which are also available for the corresponding road car to purchase and fit into the car. The Cayman is homologated for road use and could theoretically drive in normal traffic. “The Pro Sport race car is of course scheduled for race participation only”, informs Tünnesen.
The Porsche Cayman is currently prepared in the work shop at Herschbroich for its first race participation. The safety cage is already installed and the 3.5 litres V6 mid-engine has been removed in order to carry out all the eligible modifications. The Cayman performance in race configuration will be around 340 HP and shall thus have a chance to finish on the podium. “We do of course not yet know how many cars will compete in our class but I am sure that if everything’s running well in our team and we have the right drivers under contract, we will be able to fight for the class wins”, hopes team manager Christoph Esser.
The names of the drivers are currently not yet known. “We are in contact with some interesting drivers”, says Tünnesen, “but a final decision on the composition of the team remains to be taken.” As the first participation is scheduled for the test and set-up sessions on 26th of March, there is still some time left to find the perfect team.
In addition to the participation in VLN, Pro Sport wit the support of the Porsche Zentrum Willich will also enter the series Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring and the International 24 Hour Race at the Nürburgring.
