In 2011, the former Audi works driver Lucas Luhr will return to the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft (VLN) and to the team of Manthey Racing. After having competed in three championship rounds already in 2010 in the yellow-green Manthey-R and the HARIBO-R, Luhr, who lives in Switzerland, now agreed with team manager Olaf Manthey on a cooperation throughout the 2011 endurance racing season at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, including his participation in the 24h Race.
Both parties thus follow up the numerous race successes achieved by Luhr in a Manthey-Porsche until 2006. “The Manthey-free time is over now”, says Luhr gladly. “After four years time, I will now return to the team with which I have not only competed in fantastic races and won the 24h Race but in which I had always been feeling really great.”
The news about the comeback of Luhr was also very well received in the team’s base at Meuspath. “Of course, I need a quick and competitive driver, but the human aspect, too, must match. As Lucas combines both of these factors, his acceptance was something like a late Christmas present for my wife Renate and me”, informs Manthey.
In 2011, the multiple ALMS Champion Luhr will share the cockpit of his “big one” with his old team mates Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas who will participate in the races at the Nürburgring according to availability. The drivers’ crew will be completed by Arno Klasen who will make every effort in the new season to keep up with his team manager regarding overall wins.
“Our long-time and faithful partners will also continue to support us in 2011. So I am sure that we will present a competitive package in order to stand up to the old and new competitors in a fair and successful manner”, states Olaf Manthey for whom the consistency in the cooperation with drivers, partners and team staff is of utmost importance.
