The 2011 calendar of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring is set. Next season again, the most beautiful and most demanding race track of the world – the Nürburgring with the legendary Nordschleife – will host this most popular endurance racing series in Europe ten times.
The first race after the traditional VLN test and set-up session, which marks the unofficial start of the new season both for participants and fans, is scheduled for 2nd April. Four further VLN races will then still follow at the Nürburgring before the ADAC Zurich 24h Race, the highlight in the ‘Green Hell’ to take place on 26th June. On 30th April, 14th May, 28th May and 11th June the teams will thus have the opportunity to get prepared for the classical endurance race in the Eifel region.
After the 24 Hour Race, the endurance racing series will then start into its second half of the season on 30th July, still before the usual summer break. The month of August will be race-free. Rounds seven and eight will take place on 10th and on 24th September, followed by the two final races in October, namely on 15th and 29th October, to conclude the season 2011. The annual prizegiving ceremony is scheduled for 10th December in the Dorint Hotel at the Nürburgring.
“We are happy with the calendar for the 2011 season”, informs VLN Managing Director Robert Rust. “There is one main factor which has been considered. We will have five events before the 24 Hour Race. This provides more opportunities for all the teams which do not regularly take part in the endurance racing series to get well prepared for the race twice around the clock.”
The ten dates will shortly be allocated to the organising clubs of the organisers’ association. In 2011, the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring will again be part of the German GT Championship. Next week, the DMSB will announce which of the VLN races will also be qualifying rounds for this National Sports Car Championship.
