Kai Riemer and Rodney Forbes are the fastest Cup-Porsche drivers in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft 2010. The two Weiland drivers recorded this success with another class win at the tenth and last round of the current season. After some bad luck in the previous two races, the team of Weiland Racing now had the necessary bit of luck and all of the three Porsche race cars of the team finished the race successfully.
Above all the Flying-Horse-MPD-Porsche driven by Riemer and Forbes: After their third position in the qualifying session, the duo immediately chased the two cars in front of them and started a hard but fair fight for the lead. Whilst the first third of the race was really exciting, it turned then out to be dominated by Weiland Racing. The Porsche 997 GT3 Cup constantly moved away from its competitors. Even though Rodney Forbes temporarily had to struggle a little with his rear tyres, the victory for the fast duo was never in danger. Position one in their class and eighth overall were reason enough for Weiland Racing to celebrate.
And team manager Matthias Weiland also studied the final classification with a big smile. With positions six and seven, Rodney Forbes and Kai Riemer are amongst the fastest drivers of the series. “It is only a pity that we just missed the podium by such a small margin. Looking at the running of the whole season, even the Championship win would perhaps have been possible”. Matthias Weiland could however also be very happy with the top 10 result, especially as not only the third fastest car of the season but also the fastest Porsche came from the team of Weiland-Racing.
The team manager himself had competed again in the final race, together with Rene Bourdeaux. For the new driver in the Weiland team this was his second round and he recommended himself for next season. Even though the duo was not able to set the top times of the winning crew, they nevertheless finished in class Cup2 into a remarkable seventh place with their Snook-Porsche. “I am rally very happy with the result”, said team manager Weiland who had entered a third Cup-Porsche for the season final.
Behind the steering wheel of the autoweiland-Porsche were drivers Norbert Pauels, Jens Riemer and Wolfgang Destree, well-known at the ‘Ring’. This trio, too, was enthusiastic about the performance of their race car. They finished ninth in their class and scored a result which was fully in accordance with their possibilities.
Weiland Racing will not have much time for a quiet winter break. One of the three Cup race cars will now be prepared for the 24 Hour Race at Dubai. “We have decided not to use the 2010 car as we would not have any chance due to the new classification into classes”, said Harald Weiland. The team wishes to score a class win the Cup-Porsche which will be entered for the race in Dubai. The final composition of the four drivers’ team, however, has not yet been confirmed. “There are still some free places but we will for sure take a decision shortly”, said Matthias Weiland.
The fans and friends of the racing team will not have to wait very long to see Weiland-Racing again. All the visitors of the Essen Motorshow (27 November till 5 December 2010) are cordially invited to visit Weiland-Racing in Hall 1.
