A legend will celebrate its comeback: Next weekend, Scheid Motorsport will for the first time in the current season compete in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring with the “Eifelblitz”.
Their race car will however no longer be the BMW M3 GTR-S with which the crew around team manager Johannes Scheid had celebrated so many successes in the past. It will with immediate effect be replaced by the BMW M3 GT4 in order to pursue the unique history of the team in the “Green Hell”.
Two prominent drivers are under contract to drive the close-to-production race car at the comeback of Scheid Motorsport who celebrated their 40th anniversary last year: The two BMW works drivers Dirk Werner and Dirk Adorf. The duo has been engaged to drive the new “Eifelblitz” at the 35th DMV Münsterlandpokal race within the BMW customers’ sales and development activities.
“The whole team is extremely motivated to finally rejoin the VLN again”, says Johannes Scheid. “The “Eifelblitz” has a long tradition at the Nordschleife and we have received a fantastic support by the fans all over the past years. We will now enter into a totally new field with the BMW M3 GT4. I am looking forward to the cooperation with Dirk Werner and Dirk Adorf and I hope that we will have an enjoyable roll-out. We have planned to enter the BMW M3 GT4 in all the events of next year’s VLN season.”
The fans of the VLN endurance race series are already familiar with the BMW M3 GT3 which will be entered by Scheid Motorsport: The more than 420 HP strong race cars has already been used on the track at the previous nine championship rounds so far as pace car and as part of the cooperation between BMW Motorsport and the VLN.
Scheid Motorsport belongs to the most successful teams at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In 1996 and in 1997, the team celebrated already overall victories in this classical endurance race series in the Eifel mountains. It was at that time, too, that that the nickname “Eifelblitz”, which is intrinsically tied to Johannes Scheid and the BMW M3 to this day, was born.
