“That was indeed a fantastic experience, it was really great fun”, these were the first statements made by Yannick Fübrich after his first participation in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring on 31st of July 2010. “Many thanks to the team for giving me this opportunity. I hope this was not the last time for me!” explained the race driver from Heilbronn (Germany) after the race on Saturday evening.
The 6 Hour Race of the VLN endurance racing championship is always a very special highlight taking place on the 24.369 kilometres long track combining the Nürburgring short version and the Nordschleife. Yannick Fübrich was invited by the Team Dieselspeed to participate in class SP 10 with an approximately 420 HP strong GT4 Corvette.
His team mates were experienced drivers such as Tobias Guttroff (Scheinfeld/ Germany), Frank Borkowsky (Mönchengladbach/ Germany) and Henning Meyersrenken. The 18 years old Fübrich does not yet know the Nordschleife perfectly but he is considered to be one of the greatest talents in racing. Since the beginning of the current season, he is thus part of the Youngster-Racing-Team of the “deutsche motor sport jugend (dmsj)”, an initiative promoted by the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund to support young promising drivers. The dmjs nominated Porsche driver Lance David Arnold as his advisor. “Yannick informs me about the scheduled tests and I will attend the sessions as far as possible. It is my great pleasure if I can provide any kind of assistance in such cases”, informed the driver of the Haribo TeamManthey who scored an overall win at the last two races.
For team manager Günter Gärtner, the result of the quartet was not that significant, also considering the less powerful engine which was used. “The other engine is under revision, that is why we had to use this one”, informed Gärtner. “The performance of the crew, however, was quite satisfying. All of the four drivers set fast lap times and had above all a safe race”, he said quite satisfied.
After 36 race laps, the teams finished into position two in their class and in 43rd place overall amongst the 182 starters. “The result was not bad at all and for me, the main issue was to gain experience. I was faced with a lot of new things. But it was a super experience and I hope that I will have another opportunity to start in the GT4 Corvette. A big thank you also to the deutsche motor sport jugend (dmsj) and the Motorsport Akademie Nürburgring around Christopher Bartz, without which such a participation would not have been possible.”
